Project 2 – Comms Lead For Lighthouse Labs Acquisition (B2C, B2B, B2G)

Context:

On January 2nd, 2025, Lighthouse Labs was acquired by Uvaro, marking one of the most visible consolidations in Canada’s tech-education sector. I was responsible for leading and developing the full scope of internal and external communications to support stakeholder trust, ensure a smooth learner transition, and maintain brand alignment between the two organizations.

This involved managing a complex communications environment across eight distinct audiences — including prospective and current students (B2C), alumni (B2C), partners (B2B), funders, and government stakeholders (B2G). Each group required tailored messaging, timing, and transparency to maintain trust and alignment throughout the process. Reporting directly to the CEOs of both organizations, I served as the primary communications lead, coordinating with marketing, PR, and operations teams to deliver unified messaging through every stage of the acquisition announcement and integration.

My Role:

  • Designed and executed a comprehensive communications strategy that addressed the needs of eight distinct stakeholder audiences (learners, alumni, staff, partners, employers, government agencies, media, and the broader tech community).
  • Created all messaging and documentation for the announcement, including the press release, blog post, website updates, student and partner emails, executive talking points, and FAQs.
  • Coordinated closely with leadership and legal teams to ensure accuracy, compliance, and message alignment across both organizations.
  • Partnered with PR firm Talkshop to extend reach through media relations and paid media support.
  • Developed tailored content for social media, executive comms, and employer outreach, ensuring message resonance across diverse channels.

Results:

  • Generated 8.5M+ total views from the PR campaign with an ad value equivalency of $80K.
  • Achieved 110K+ organic views on LinkedIn on day one, including ghostwriting one viral post by Lighthouse Labs CEO.
  • Secured leading media coverage in BetaKit and other industry outlets.
  • Reached 13/13 targeted Canadian government agencies with tailored ‘heads up’, all of which acknowledged the announcement.
  • Created 50+ meetings with program partners, resulting in 5 new deals to date directly tied to the acquisition campaign.
